Festival Purpose
1) Busan Theater to the World
The BIPAF, which will be held in Busan, Korea's second-largest city, has led the way in creating opportunities to enjoy high-quality performances by inviting outstanding works from around the world and outstanding works in Korea based on its solid performing arts infrastructure. The 21st Busan International Theater Festival aims to contribute to the progress of Busan theater to the global era by not only inviting outstanding works but also providing a bridgehead for domestic and Busan theater to advance into the world through overseas expansion programs.
2) Leap to the 'City of Culture and Arts, Busan'
The BIPAF has presented various genres of performing arts, including physical theater, family theater, puppet theater, and street theater, not limited to specific genres. This year's Busan International Theater Festival expands the festival by expanding outdoor and citizen's square programs along with theater performances. We look forward to making a leap into Busan, a city of cultural entertainment, where citizens can feel cultural pride and a place for festivals that can be enjoyed together anywhere.
3) Fostering the pride and sense of community of the local people
BIPAF has not only provided domestic and overseas popular works, but has worked hard on programs that make it easy for anyone to access the festival. This year's BIPAF aims to create a venue for artists-citizens to breathe and communicate together by increasing opportunities to participate in the festival and promoting pride as participants, not consumers of art, through the "Master Class" created by local and future artists and the "10-minute Open Plays" that allows citizens to participate.
4) Contributing to the expansion of international art exchanges
BIPAF has hosted the festival for the past 20 years, building networks with various organizations not only in Korea but also contributing to the expansion of private exchanges. BIPAF, which has signed an official agreement with the Avignon Off Festival, a world-renowned performing arts festival, is focusing on exchanges with world-class arts organizations such as Italy, Romania, and Hong Kong, and intends to contribute to the expansion of international art exchanges in Busan.

Participating
Program
○ 10 Minute Open Plays (Citizen Participation Program)
June 1st (Sat) <Gwangalli Meeting Plaza, Millac The Market>
- 10 Minute Open Play is a citizen participation program for anyone who loves performing arts, where creativity and passion overflows. Using the limited time of 10 minutes to the fullest, you can freely show your hidden creativity and talent by telling realistic stories through various forms such as plays, skits, miming, performances, dance, musicals, magic, and non-verbal performances. The 10 Minute Open Play program is divided into two categories: <General participation> and <College of Major participation>.

○ Dynamic Street (A street play contest program)
May 25 (Sat) to May 26 (Sun) <Busan Cinema Center Outdoor Plaza>
- As the main program of BIPAF, under the concept of ‘Global Link from BIPAF’, excellent domestic street art artists and excellent street art artists from abroad will participate. It is a program that anyone who visits Busan can enjoy, and we want to break away from the stereotype of "theater = theater, on stage" and approach citizens who were unfamiliar with the play as a genre of more familiar art. Through the contest, leading domestic and foreign street performance teams will share the joy of the festival with citizens at the outdoor square of the Busan Cinema Center Outdoor Plaza.

○ ARTIST TALK
Moby Dick (Friday, May 24) / Absence Imbalance Balance (Saturday, May 25) / Drilling (Sunday, May 26) / Misericordia (Monday, May 27) / The Insider (Thursday, May 30) / Macbettu (Saturday, June 1)
- A meaningful communication time where you can understand the performance more broadly through Q&A session and conversation after the show!
Artist Talk is a time for performers and audiences, where you can directly see the audience's perspectives and opinions on performing arts, and have deep conversations between performers and audiences.
