Funerals plus dying industries equals . . . a comedy?
It does in the case of HUMORTAL, a clown and gestural humor performance that aims to put “fun” back into funerals.
Society is making the switch from burial to cremation; what can undertakers do for a living now? They need a dead body to keep them working. A large, busy, metropolitan city is the perfect place to find (unsuspecting) candidates to fill up their coffin. That’s where we meet the players of HUMORTAL, roaming the streets on a hunt for a stiff. Those streets can be anywhere they decide to start a performance- including the various pedestrian-heavy hotspots of Busan!
HUMORTAL has been performed all over the world, including once before in Korea winning the Best Foreign Company Show prize at the 2008 Ansan Street Arts Festival. Though foreign in origin, these players from Catalan Company overcome any language barriers by using the language that transcends national bounds: physical humor.
As an audience member, consider yourself warned: you will die laughing!
