This coproduction of Japanese theatre company, Theater Project Sapporo (TPS,) and Korean theatre company, Chungwoo, represents the harmonious collaboration between Japan and Korea! The love and affection shared by these neighbors play out atop a soundtrack by Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky.
 
In a village near Susukino in Sapporo, Hokkaido, one young Korean restaurateur and her neighbors live.
 
The Susukino locals live from hand to mouth yet have a happy and energetic life. One winter’s day, a Korean woman is moving to the Susukino community when the ‘crab incident’ occurs. A delivery service man misplaces an expensive king crab and must quickly replace it in order to fulfill the order. Where could those ten legs have carried it?
A Crab, a Woman and her Japanese Neighbors is the charming story of becoming true neighbors, constructing new alliances between old rivals, and forming bonds that transcends nationality when in pursuit of a crab.

A Crab, a Woman and her Japanese Neighbors is a product of the relationship between Korean theatre company, Chungwoo, and Hokkaido Theatre Foundation’s Theater Project Sapporo (TPS), first forged in 2009.The play has toured around Northern Japan including stops in cities: Sapporo, Kiyota, Asahikawa, Kushiro and Iwamizawa. It has received a lot of attention for enacting the commitment to cooperation between these two powerful neighbors.
 
◆Without lyrics, A Crab, a Woman and her Japanese Neighbors tells of the love and affection between neighbors expressed through the music of Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky.
 
Set in Sapporo in Hokkaido, the cooperation between the Korean and Japanese neighbors of Susukino is symbolic of the growing partnership between the two nations at large. The story plays out with understated humor and charm, deciphering its theme: the attachment and connectivity that forms over time between people, whether intentional or serendipitous. Additionally, the soundtrack by Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky will leave a deep impression.
