Dreaming Fossil Dreaming Fossil is set at the end of the Joseon Dynasty era. This is the time in Korea's history when Japan occupied the peninsula and the effects of their rule and their defeat leading to Korea's freedom is shown through the lives of three Koreans caught in the dangerous political times of the nation. Despite Japan's horrible treatment of the Koreans, many had little choice but to join pro-Japanese groups or work for the Japanese military. After Japan's defeat many of the Korean's who worked for the Japanese were sentenced to death for war crimes. This is the story of Su-Han, a Korean man who gets drafted into the Japanese military as a civilian worker. It is the story of his life working for the Japanese, his time in a prison camp after Japan's defeat, his trial and eventual release. Similar to the tale of Nazi sympathizers in France, Belgium and Holland during World War II and their punishment when allied forces freed those countries from the Germans, this is the universal tale of a people living under foreign rulers and the choices people make to survive. Dreaming Fossil won this year's Busan Theater Festival and will be performed May 5th (Wed) at 7 p.m. and May 6th (Thu) at 8 pm. at the Busan Cultural Center, Medium Hall. The play is in Korean. |
