A soldier makes a deal with the devil: his instrument for unlimited wealth. A cautionary tale of good versus evil, <Soldier’s Tale> is told with opera and dance and set to the music of Igor Stravinsky.
<Soldier’s Tale> is theater, puppet play and musical play, made by a collaboration of Ferdinand Ramuz’s play and Igor Stravinsky’s music. This work is a mix of opera and dance.
<Soldier’s Tale> was written in 1917 and 1918 after an ancient Russian tale by Alexander Afanassiev. The very Faustian subject evokes such themes as the vanity of money, the conflict between ‘Good’ and ‘Evil’, trying to conquer the soul of a human, the innate devious nature of human beings and nihilistic sentiment. It ends with the triumph of evil in this case.
Synopsis
A soldier on leave comes back from war with his violin. Underway, he meets the devil who proposes a deal – his instrument against a magic book that will bring him wealth. The soldier agrees and follows him.
He believes that he has left for three days but actually three years have passed. Back in his village, nobody remembers him. Sure, the book will bring him wealth for a while but at the same time he will alienate himself from happiness and eventually he will be virtually drowned in the devil’s kingdom.
Co-Production Theater
Théâtre de la Place
The Théâtre de la Place is among the five dramatic art Centres of the French-speaking Community Walloon-Brussels, and since the 2006/2007 season, it has also become a European centre for theatrical and choreographic creation. This label is a sign of the new impetus given by the artistic project in progress since the 2005/2006 season, under the management of Serge Rangoni, and consisting in particular in the creation of partnerships with various local members, regional members, Cultural Centres, and international members.
This expansion is the result of a policy of increased support to artists and a desire to create more encounters with the general public, around current theatrical forms, reflecting the diversity and trends of today’s society.
The Théâtre de la Place is a member of the IRIS network and of the European Theatre Convention.

Since its inception, Point Zero has gone on to stage such works as: The Tempest,Old Maids King Leopold,Night and Day, and Spring Awakening. Their productions are shaped by inspiration set on expressing “language” and challenging the status quo of how art is defined. The relation between performers and puppets is in constant focus: who controls and who is controlled? Their expression of the intricacies of the human psyche continues to carry them onto both local and international stages.

Xooang Choi
Xooang Choi is an artist who sculpts concrete bodies. This may sound somewhat banal atfirst, but we come to be surprised at his ability to grasp the world pathologically.
While Choi’s work arouses our admiration with its extremely realistic rendition, in a sensehis figures, at times seem pessimistic in that aspects of our lives and times are shown onlyin pathological terms. However, we can call him a shaman. His work has the power to makeus look closely at our world and situation. Although his pieces do not present any strategiesfor healing, we can expect his following work will lead us to make efforts towards healing.
