<Synopsis>

Projection x Chanting x Percussion

Distortion City is the artistic combination of digital art, electronic music, drum music, and the indigenous song-and-dance in Taiwan. As a response to the modern society which is fully supported by technology, the work intends to

remind us of the shrinking or the unnoticed tracks of humanity. Living a life overloaded with electronic commodities, we need to polish our souls with culture and beauty. The electronic images and the music in the performance are interactively created through the real-time movement/sound made by the performers. The simple projection technique turns the stage into a dazzling performance space, while the traditional Asian style of drum performance and the Taiwanese aboriginal singing, which is warm and powerful, arouse the soul. As suggested by Distortion City, each one of us should think about if there is a way to combine technology and the traditional culture . to create a perfect co-existence.

<Mobius Strip Theatre>

One piece of thin, long paper strip, twisted and connected, shifting from surface to space, from limited to limitless, Mobius strip symbolizes the integration of powers from past and present, unifying the sacred and the profane.

Once integrated, it becomes limitless without limits and boundaries.

The Mobius Strip Theatre (MST) was founded in 2005, corresponding to the idea of the circular, never-ending “strip”, MST consists of artists from various countries and cultures (including Taiwan, H.K. and Malaysia).

Based in Taiwan, MST insists on providing a creative platform for the potential of integrating various fields that might at first seem to be essentially different from one another.

Our task lies in:

TRADITION & PRESENT .finding wisdom

THOUGHT & LIVING .exemplifying art

CULTURE & NATURE .connecting emotion

MIND & EDUCATION .spreading hope

The persuit of artistic traditions and of the developments in contemporary theatre are both present in our works. They demonstrate a new appraoch to combining drama, physical movement, spiritual reflections and use of multi-media in theatre.

MST also plays a key role in international exchanges, especially within the Chinese-speaking theatres. These projects include: Co-production with Hong Kong Repertory Theatre and On and On Theatre Workshop (2012), invitation to New Vision Arts Festival, H.K. (2008), College Festival of China (2006), International Theatre Festival Shanghai (2006). Other international invitations include: Avignon Festival Off (2012), Bangkok Fringe Festival (2009)、Poland XV Annual International Contemporary Dance Festival (2008)、Salute to Taiwan (invited by Ministry of Foreign Affairs R.O.C. for a tour in Germany, co-production with Taiwan To Go, 2007) among others。
