An adaptation of Purgatory, a poem by William Yeats, Irish Nobel Prize winner for literature. In the spiritual realm, preparing for heaven means going through hell. Yeats comes to Korean audiences with a new visual dynamism.

<Purgatory: Suddenly a Breakaway Man> adapts Purgatory, a poem of W.B.Yeats, the Irish Nobel Prize winner in literature. This play is the story of ‘Purgatory.’ Steeped in Catholic tradition, purgatory is believed to be the limbo between heaven and hell where souls are punished in preparation for ascension to heaven. This play creates a surrealistic atmosphere using mixed media. In this play, the dead and living are together just as the past and present coexist.
This is a story of a man who resists against certain fate. This man’s eagerness to overcome his fate is very tragic, but audiences’ own emotions will rise up alongside our protagonist.

This is very good opportunity for Korean audiences to experience Yeats’ work as it constructed with many dynamic elements such as emotive visuals, use of Tabla (Indian percussion) and collaboration with Korean poems
