Misgivings of the past are mirrored in the transgressions of the present.

During the construction of a resort on Ilwol Mountain, a headstone and other artifacts are discovered and the construction comes to a halt. These artifacts are the first parts of the great history of Ilwol Mountain told in <The Longest Way Around.>

Ilwol Mountain was the site of a Japanese invasion in the past. Flashing back to that time, two families are shown at war against each other: one defends Korea and the other, Japan.

<The Longest Way Around> binds the same conflict of past and present around the common ground of Ilwol Mountain and criticizes modern society's system of power, not earned, but rather inherited by birthright into society's elite. However, it also shows that this inequality is not limited to today; moreover, it is merely a continuation of the past. More than the setting of Ilwol Mountain remains unchanged- times may progress, but names, locations and conflicts remain the same. Whether by force or coincidence, the template of the present seems established in the past.
