A middle-aged man lives alone in a bachelor apartment. His family has moved abroad and left him behind.  Every night, he sleeps with the phone above his head so that he can answer it quickly if his family calls.  This nightly routine soon turns obsessive.  His irritability at work and strange behaviour at night spark curiosity and further isolate him from society.  He’s insistent on keeping 12 statues of the Holy Mother in his apartment although no one knows why.
